definition

An Inbred strain created by crossing two different inbred strains, followed by brother x sister matings for at least 20 generations. A panel of recombinant inbred strains derived from a cross between the same original parental strains can be used to establish linkage between any marker that is polymorphic between the parental strains and other polymorphic markers that have been typed in each strain in the panel.
